Christmas is the time of year when we begin to slow down, put away some of the other homeschooling curriculum to enjoy advent crafts, cooking and books. Today I want to share with you 30 Children’s Christmas Books that are just Magic! Some of these we have in our homeschool library, and some are on our Christmas Wish List. Angel on Assignment by Wanda Carter Roush
Encourage children to feel the blessings of angels around them all the time, while learning that they do have an angel of their own there to help keep them safe, all they need to do is say a little prayer, and ask fort them to be there. A Cookie for Santa by Stephanie Shaw
We love cookies, and making cookies for Santa so much fun, but what if your cookie really doesn’t want to be eaten? This is a fun story about a cookie who proves to Santa that he has a great heart, and is meant for bigger things, then simply being a yummy Christmas Eve treat!

Tacky’s Christmas by Helen Lester
Our kids love Tack the Penguin, and this Christmas adventures he has is another favourite. Tacky is a fun loving’, easy going type of penguin, who may be different from the others, but his creativity saves the day, yet again in this really fun Christmas special. Our kids enjoy this time and time again.
Winter Snow Fun by Wendy Dunham
This is another one of our kids favourites, written by my friend and author Wendy Dunham who brings the excitement of playing in the first snow of the season to heart in this lovely and engaging story book for kids ages 3 to 8, with our favorite charactors, Beaver, Skunk, Raccon, Mouse and Mole and learn timeless values, such as sharing, compassion, kindness, encouragement, and patience but most of all, friendship.
The Mitten by Jan Brett
A true classic, this book is simply cherished in our home, and I am sure it will be in yours as well. Follow the story of a lost knitted mitten, as it becomes home for many animals in the woods. This book inspired me to learn how to knit, 2 years ago, when our son was very much obsessed with this story.
Finding Christmas by Robert Munsch
This books was a gift from us to our kiddos last Christmas, and we all cough relate to this little girl who loves to search for the gifts hidden in the house, every year. But, not this year because her parents have been very clear! It’s fun, and engaging and shows kids what parents find to be the most important gift to them.
Santa’s Dog by Joann Sky
A book written by another author friend of mine, Joann Sky was inspired by her own dog to write this adorably fun, pet loving story all about a family finding Santa’s actual dog, who fell off his sleigh! It’s definitely one of our favourites.
The Gingerbread Man by Gail Yerrill
The classic story of the gingerbread man, our kids enjoy this version with all the farm animals all wanting to eat this poor little cookie. This story, in any of it’s versions is a must has this time of year.
Little’s Porcupine’s Christmas by Joseph Slate
What a sweet story about a little Porcupine, who feels he isn’t cut out for the Christmas play, but his mother reassures him that he is the light of her life, and continues to encourage him to be himself. In the end he finds the perfect part in the school play, and it’s just lovely.
The Crayons' Christmas by Drew Daywalt

Beautifully illustrated, this sequel to the beloved classic tale shares a new trail that Rudolph has to face, after he loosing this light! This is on my Wishlist too, so I am in the dark as to how this story ends…

The Wish Tree by Kyo Maclear
Wishes can come true, all we have to so if believes. This winter story is a joy to read and spark the thought of making wishes. Maybe you will be inspired to make your own wish tree craft, like this one that Modern Mom made in this video here.

Continuing the theme of making wishes, this books shares the story o one boy, who is home with the babysitter during Christmas, goes on quite the adventure after his wish comes true, in an unexpected way.

We love all the books by Tomie dePaola and this is no exception. Enjoy learning the Mexican Legend that tells how the poinsettia came to be, though a little girls unselfish wish.
