Build a Glitter Fairy Playdough Kit

Glitter Fairy Playdough Recipe
Ingredients Needed:
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 2 TBSP's of Cream of Tartar
- 2 TBSP's of Iridescent Glitter
- Food Coloring, Neon Colors of Pink + Blue
- 1 cup of water
- 1 TBSP of Veg Oil
Method for making your own Glitter Fairy Playdough:
In a medium-sized bowl, add your flour, salt, cream of tartar and glitter. Mix up with a whisk. 
In a small container or bowl, add your water, food coloring and then your veg oil. Mix. 
On the stove, heat a skillet or non-stick pan to a medium-low heat. Add your dry ingredients first, and then you wet. 
Mix up until combined, as it cooks and begins to harden. You will want to constantly be spreading around your dough with a strong spatula, one that can really hand a lot of pressure. I like to press and glide the spatula around the pan, to really mix the flour and water.
It will soon come together, harden and look like this: 
Once it is not gooey anymore, transfer to a clean counter and knead in a tsp of oil for a minute or so. It will be hot so be careful, but this will help it become soft and smooth. 
Cover with plastic wrap, and repeat with your desired colors. We wanted to go with a blue. 
When you have your playdough all made, it will be time to gather up all your extra supplies and set up your build a glitter fairy playdough kit! 
Making Your Glitter Fairy Playdough Kit
Supplies Needed:
- Glitter Fairy Playdough
- Cookie Cutters
- Playdough press
- seashells + other objects to imprint
- pompoms
- buttons
- white pearl beads
- Aqua blue gems

I have created a Fairy Story Book that goes along with The Knot Fairy by Bobbie Hinman, and any activity was your kids will be creating and building fairies. They will most likely start telling you a backstory about their creations, and it is wonderful to have this story writing booklet on hand for you and then to record all their thoughts, and maybe draw some pictures after their building time.

Once you have your fairy playdough kit all together, your kids will be begging for story time, and play time that will sneakily encourage fine motor skills strengthening, storytelling, narration, and dictation all in one! 
Here's what happens with my boys when I took out this kit...
They were so happy to see the kit, all the colorful items in it, and were happily building and playing. My 7 year old really enjoyed building his own fairy, and he created a whole personality for her, and backstory into her feelings about being a fairy, who no one can see. 
My youngest, 4 1/2 really loves simply playing with any kind of playdough, and was so happy to play with the playdough press. This was a new addition that he had never used before. 
Here is "The lonely fairy" who is so beautiful, but no one can see because she hides all the time. I enjoy all the unique ideas that my children write about, and I am sure that by the time we are done this school year, we could write a storybook of our own!

Making this kit was so much fun, and reading The Knot Fairy by Bobbie Hinman has been so nice.
